I am a young Dutch DJ living in Utrecht. As a 6-year-old I joined the local break dance team. On a regular basis break dance battles were held, during which DJs were responsible for the music we danced on. I got interested in the way they selected, mixed, or even created the music while reading the crowd. So, I started playing around myself. My first controller was not much more than a kid’s tool, but this was quickly followed by the Traktor Kontrol MK2 SK3. Together with their Traktor software and an old MacBook a perfect tool for learning the basic technical skills a DJ needs.
Skills are nothing without experience. Luckily, I got my first gig at the age of 12 in my last year at the primary school. Since then, I have performed regularly at parties and events with crowds ranging between 50 and 5,000. The good old Traktor couldn’t cope anymore with the bigger crowds and the much bigger speakers which comes with them. So, I now play and mix on a Pioneer XDJ-XZ, using the standard Pioneer CDJ club lay-out used at most clubs around the world.
